SAHaiti  > Children > Project Istwa Jacmel
The Salvation Army Haiti partnered with New York based nonprofit Project Istwa to welcome 17 children ages 10-14 for one week of photovoice workshops in Jacmel. Children were taught about digital photography and photo composition and discussed how images can convey different messages. They were able to document their lives for a day and share the istwa (Haitian Creole for "story") of each of their favorite photos and display them in an exhibit for friends, family and community at the end of the week. Thanks to Project Istwa for allowing The Salvation Army Haiti to facilitate this project and to Hotel Florita (Jacmel) for lending a space to the beautiful stories and photos of these kids for the exhibit. Take a look at some of the candid photos from the week!

Day 5: Some of the participants came from an area called Mathador where the Salvation Army has a church plant. One child's favorite picture was the sign in front of that location.
Day 6: Ja (left) and Denninson (right) work to write out the "istwa" for each of his photos to be displayed in the exhibit. Day six was a long day of story-telling!
