The rural mountain town of Couyot has received 20 new latrines (as of May 2012) to help promote better sanitation and fight against the spread of cholera. A community latrine has been built at The Salvation Army's health center (the only health center in the area) and individual family latrines have been built in other areas. Rural communities are particularly vulnerable because health care can be scarce and is often only accessible after a few hour's walk which can mean the difference between life and death for some cholera patients.
