Friends and members of The Salvation Army Haiti gathered on March 25, 2012 to break ground for the construction of the new complex in the Delmas 2 neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. International Salvation Army guests were joined by local government and partner representatives to celebrate both the history and the future of The Salvation Army in Haiti and specifically in Port-au-Prince. The new complex will include a church to seat 3,000 people, new kindergarten, primary and secondary school buildings for College Verena, a new clinic building and a social services building.

Commissioner Brian Peddle, Territorial Commander of The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory, expressed Canada's excitement to partner in this project, specifically rebuilding the clinic and funding the Integrated Family Support Program and the new social services building.
Lieutenant Colonel Thorgeir Nybo, Secretary for Business Administration for The Salvation Army Norway, Iceland and the Faroes Territory, was present to reinforce his territory's support of The Salvation Army in Haiti. This territory is helping to fund the new Social Services Building.
Children from College Verena were present at the ceremony and sang for all invited guests.

Lieutenant Colonel Victor Leslie, Chief Secretary of The Salvation Army Caribbean Territory, addressed the congregation, pulling inspiration from Haiti's national anthem, "Le Dessalinienne:" May the fields be fertile, and our souls take courage, let us toil joyfully."
Major Sylvaine Maegli, College Verena administrator, with the help of some of her students, expressed colorful words of gratitude to those who have supported and will support the projects of TSA in Delmas 2; specifically College Verena.
Lieutenant Colonels Brad & Heidi Bailey, the international undersecretary for the Caribbean & the Americas, and the International Haiti Earthquake & Development Director respectively, were present to show their support and offer encouragement on such a special occasion.
